Simon Child will play a huge role for Delhi WaveRiders in HIL |
The Wave Group owned Delhi WaveRiders have named their six
player retained list for next two editions of Hockey India League with Simon
Child being the big name retained. Champions of 2014 season however did not
retain Captain Sardar Singh or penalty corner expert Rupinder Pal Singh who
played a huge role in team’s good fortunes.
Delhi WaveRiders have gone for young Indian players and
experienced foreign players with the likes of Talwinder Singh, Yuvraj Walmiki
and Surender Kumar retained under domestic quota while New Zealand stalwart
Simon Child, Steven Edwards and young Australian Tristan White who plays in the
midfield.
Indian captain Sardar Singh led the team from the front was
not retained by Delhi WaveRiders despite him being the most influential player
for last three seasons.
Simon Child has been key player for WaveRiders in all three
season and he was equally supported by Indian strikers Talwinder Singh and
Yuvraj Walmiki. Child was Delhi WaveRiders top scorer for 2015 season scoring 4
goals.
Delhi WaveRiders have had good success in Hockey India League,
reaching finals in first and second edition, going on to win in the 2014
edition. In the last season of the tournament, Delhi WaveRiders finished at
fourth position behind, Ranchi Rays, Jaypee Punjab Warriors and Uttar Pradesh
wizards.
Talwinder Singh was retained by Delhi WaveRiders for $
25000, Yuvraj Walmiki for $40000 and Surender Kumar for $22000. Among the
foreign players, Simon Child was retained for $50000, Tristan White for $40000
and Steven Edwards for $34000.
Wave Group’s executive director Amar Singh said much thought
was given about the retention of players and the group of six players were
selected looking after the new goals the team wanted to achieve. The experience
of Child, White and Edwards would help the young players of the team and mould
them according to team’s strategy.
Australia’s Tristan White was also happy to be retained by
the side for next two seasons saying it was amazing to play with the best
players in great city (Delhi).
The player’s auctions will take place in September where all
teams will look to once again strengthen their side for upcoming seasons.
