DoIT Sports Management (India) Pvt. Ltd owners of Mumbai franchisee of Hockey India League have named their team as Dabang Mumbai in the team unveiling ceremony that took place today in Mumbai.
DoIT Sports Management who also owns Delhi franchisee of Pro Kabaddi League have named the franchisee after keeping in mind the fighting spirit of Maharashtra and as a symbol highlighting the unhibited ambition of the fransee to play for victory.
Dabang Mumbai will be coached by former Indian player Anil Aldrian who was part of 1996 Olympics team. He will be joined by Edar Mascarenhas former Indian goalkeeper. Also joining the team will be former Indian captain and midfielder Viren Rasquinha, the champion player turned administrator who will help device a management and player strategy, spearheading all aspects of Dabang Mumbai’s agenda for Hockey India League 2015.
Speaking on the occasion, Viren Rasquinha said, “Mumbai has always been a hub of hockey and we are keen to win the title in our first year. Our approach will be strategic and central to talent management of our team. At the same time, the primary focus of the franchise will be to identify and nurture talent at the grass-root level as part of our, soon to be launched, talent hunt program.”
Dabang Mumbai will take part in this month's players auction empty handed after they decided not to retain any players from previously Dabur family owned Mumbai Magicians.
According to the mandate given to the franchisees by Hockey India, the Mumbai franchise would have Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat as its catchment area and DoIT Sports Management would be spreading their grass-root development program across the three states and keenly work to identify find talent pool from these states in the coming days
