Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2012: Indian team announced

Going back from the old plan to send youngsters in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, Hockey India has announced a full strength squad for the tournament starting from May 24th. The team selected by Hockey India is more or less the same which was selected to play in Olympics Test Event in London.

The team will be once again captain by Bharat Chetri and defensive midfielder Sardara Singh will be his deputy in the tournament. Rupinder Pal Singh who was dropped for Ignace Tirkey in Olympics Test event will make a comeback in the squad as the third defender along with Sandeep Singh and VR Raghunath.

Following the trend, this year Sultan Azlan Shah tournament will be played on blue and pink pitches with yellow balls. The tournament will serve as good practice for the Indian and other teams before the Olympics.

The participating teams in the tournament are Argentina, Great Britain, India, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan and hosts Malaysia.

The last outing of Indian team was not a good one and Indian team finished in 6th place.

Goalkeepers: Bharat Chetri (C), Sreejesh PR

Defenders: Sandeep Singh , VR Raghunath, Rupinderpal Singh

Midfielders: Birendra Lakra , Sardar Singh (VC), Manpreet Singh, Gurbaj Singh, Kothajit Singh Khadangbam

Forwards: SV Sunil, Dharamvir Singh, Sarvanjit Singh, Gurwinder Singh Chandi, Shivendra Singh, Danish Mujtaba, S.K Uthappa, Tushar Khandker

Standbys: PT Rao (GK), Harbir Singh (Def), Pardeep Mor (Mid), Pradhan Somanna (Fwd)
