FIH Champions Challenge 1: Indian team announced


Indian team for FIH Champions Challenge 1 has been announced by Hockey India. Former India captain Rajpal Singh who underwent appendicitis operation during the Australian tour was left out of the team as he has been advised adequate rest. Ignace Tirkey vice-captain of Indian team during the Australian team was also dropped from the team.

Indian forward Gurvinder Singh Chand and midfielder Ravipal Singh were also dropped from the team. Striker Shivendra Singh who suffered a life-threatening collar bone injury returns to the team after nearly four months.
Bharat Chetri will continue his duties as captain while striker Tushar Khandekar will be the vice-captain in the tournament

Following is the Indian team for FIH Champions Challenge:

Goalkeepers:  Bharat Chetri (C) and PR Sreejesh

Defenders: Manjit Kullu, VR Raghunath, Rupinder Pal Singh, Sandeep Singh and Sardar Singh

Midfielders: Gurbaj Singh, Arjun Halappa, Birendra Lakra and Manpreet Singh

Strikers: Sarvanjit Singh, Shivendra Singh, Tushar Khandekar (V-C), Yuvraj Walmiki, Danish Mujtaba, SV Sunil and Chinglensana Singh Kangujam  

The tournament will start on 26th November 2011 while the final of the tournament will be played on 4th December 2011
