Asian Champions Trophy: Pakistan team announced

Pakistan Hockey Federation ignored experienced players Sohail Abbas, Rehan Butt and goalkeeper Salman Akbar in its 18 member squad for Asian Champions Trophy in China from September 3-11



Hanif Khan, the chief selector of PHF said the senior players can come back into the team after they prove their fitness to the national selectors. on being asked why the experienced campaigners were not taken for the tournament.

PHF has retained Mohammad Imran as the captain of Pakistan for Asian Champions Trophy while Shakeel Abbasi has been made his deputy. PHF selectors have given chance to youngsters looking at the upcoming Champions Trophy in India and Olympic games in the year 2012.

Following is the Pakistan team for Asian Champions Trophy

Squad: Imran Khan, Imran Butt, Muhammad Imran (C), Mohammad Irfan, Syed Kashif Shah, Muhammad Rizwan Jr, Muhammad Tousiq, Waseem Ahmad, Fareed Ahmad, Rashid Mehmood, Muhammad Kashif Javed, Muhammad Waqas Sharif, Shakeel Abbasi (Vc), Shafaqat Rasool, Abdul Haseem Khan, Muhammad Rizwan Sr, Muhammad Umar Bhutta, Ali Shan

Coach: Michel Van Den Heuvel

Pakistan, favorites of the tournament will play its first game against Malaysia on September 3.
