Indian team for Champions Challenge I announced

Hockey India has announced the team for Champions Challenge I which will be held in Dublin, Ireland from June 18 to June 26. Indian team will be captained by Saba Anjum in absence of regular captain Surinder Kaur. Surinder Kaur has opted out of the tournament due to personal reasons.


Another notable absentee from the team is Indian ace Mamta Kharab. Mamta Kharab missed the action in 2010 due to knee injury. She was selected in the probable list but she was not selected in the final squad of 18.

The team consists of 7 forwards, 6 midfielders, 3 defenders and 2 goalkeepers. Indian forward line will again look to Rani Rampal which has been the best player for the team in last year. In absence of Surinder Kaur, Rani Rampal, Saba Anjum and vice-captain Jasjeet Handa will have to take care of goal scoring. While Joydeep Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur and Preeti Kiro will take care of the defensive duties for the team.

Goalkeepers: Yogita Bali, Sarita
Defenders: Joydeep Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur, Preeti Sunila Kiro
Midfielders: Asunta Lakra, Ritu Rani, Roselind Ralte, Deepika Thakur, Kirandeep Kaur, Mukta Prava Barla
Forwards: Saba Anjum (captain), Rani, Jasjeet Kaur Handa (vice-captain), Anuradha Devi, Chanchan Devi, Soundarya Yendala, Poonam

Selectors also selected four players in stand-by in case of any injury.

Standbys: E Rajini (goalkeeper), Vaishali Sul (defender) Rashmi Singh (forward), Roselin Dung Dung (forward)
