Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2011: Pakistan team announced

Pakistan Hockey Federation has announced the 18 member team for upcoming Sultan Azlan Shah Cup from 5th Mat to 15th May. PHF as named 21 year old Mohammad Imran who plays as a fullback as the captain while Shakeel Abbasi has been named as the vice-captain of the Pakistan team.


Rehan Butt will handle the goal scoring for Pakistan
Pakistan team will be without former captain and experienced defender Zeeshan Ashraf who has pulled out of the tournament (while there is a news going around that PHF as deliberately kept him out of the team). He will be replaced by Syed Kashif Shah.

Pakistan has put up a strong team which has the likes of top goal scorer and penalty corner experts Sohail Abbas and the experienced duo of Shakeel Abassi and Rehan Butt in the the forward line.

Pakistan team has won the tournament two times, once in 1987 and second time in 1991. It has been 20 years since Pakistan has won the tournament and this time they have a decent team, they are one of the favorites to win the tournament this year due to their Gold medal win in last year Asian Games. Pakistan will play the opening game of the tournament against New Zealand on 5th May. Pakistan will face its arch-rivals India on 11th May

Goalkeeper: Imran Shah.
Fullbacks: Mohammad Imran (captain), Kashif Shah, Sohail Abbas.
Halfbacks: Mohammad Rizwan Jr, Waseem Ahmed, Mohammad Rashid, Fareed Ahmed, Mohammad Tousiq, Mohammad Rizwan Sr.
Forwards: Shakeel Abbasi (vice-captain), Waqas Sharif, Rehan Butt, Mohammad Zubair, Mohammad Imran Jr, Abdul Haseem Khan, Waqas Akbar, Umar Bhutta.
